Workshop on “Harnessing Renewable Energy Potential in the Kenyan Flower Industry”

The Project Development Programme (PDP) of Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) in collaboration with the Kenya Flower Council will hold a workshop on “Harnessing Renewable Energy Potential in the Kenyan Flower Industry” at Thika and Isinya to present the outcome of a study done on Kenyan flower Industry.  The venues of the workshop will be as below:

  • Thika: PTC (FPEAK Practical Training Centre for Horticulture) on Tuesday, 13th May 2014 from 9.00 am – 4.00 pm

 

  • Isinya:  Multi-Purpose Development Training Institute on Wednesday, 14th May 2014 from 9.00 am – 4.00 pm

The objective of the workshop is to explore the renewable energy potential of the Kenyan flower industry, highlighting the economic, financial and technical challenges that exist and to present German technology solutions for solar PV and biogas. The German companies scheduled to present include Juwi International GmbH and SMA Solar Technology AG.

In addition, the findings and recommendations of a report commissioned by GIZ under the title “Sungrowers: Harnessing the renewable energy potential in the Kenyan Flower Industry”, will be presented.

Invited financing institutions will also present the conditions and opportunities for funding renewable energy installations in flower farms. The forum is expected to come up with the way forward for Renewable energy in the Kenyan flower industry. Participants will also have a site visit after the workshop.
